CLEVELAND – Cleveland State (5-10, 1-3 Horizon League) took down IU Indy (4-11, 0-4 Horizon League), 99-86, on Monday night at the Wolstein Center.
"To get back the whole team was the biggest thing for us," head coach
Rob Summers said. "I am excited about that and excited about the rest of Horizon League play. We'll continue to show what we can do, especially from the offensive end. It's something that we can build upon."
Junior guard
Chevalier Emery (Appleton, Wisconsin) had a season-high and game-high 29 points on 8-of-13 shooting with one made three. Emery was 12-of-14 from the line. Sophomore forward
Dayan Nessah (Geneva, Switzerland) added 23 points on 7-of-12 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
Senior guard
Jaidon Lipscomb (Columbus, Ohio) added 15 points, senior guard
Tre Beard (Chillicothe, Ohio) had 14 points and junior forward
Josiah Harris (Canton, Ohio) added 11 points to round out the double-digit scorers for the Vikings.
As a team, the Vikings were 31-of-57 (54.4%) and 7-of-23 (30.4%) from the three-point line. CSU was 30-of-35 (85.7%) from the free throw line, including 22 made free throws in the second half.
Harris led the way on the glass with 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the year. Nessah had eight boards, including three on the offensive end. The Vikings had 38 rebounds as a team with 10 offensive boards. CSU outrebounded IU Indy, 38-33.
"Jojo (
Josiah Harris) is very energetic, and it seemed like he was everywhere," Summers added. "It seemed like he was just diving everywhere. He gives us that fire for us. He was excited to get back out there."
Each team had 17 points off turnovers, while Cleveland State forced 10 IU Indy turnovers.
Cleveland State spent 37:39 of the game in the lead. CSU's biggest run was nine, ending at the 12:29 mark of the first half.
