CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out the non-league portion of its schedule Sunday, picking up an 82-45 victory over Puerto Rico Bayamon. With the win, the Vikings are now 12-2 overall this season.

The Game
Despite getting out to a slow start over the opening minutes of the contest, Cleveland State responded with a pair of
Jada Leonard and
Sarah Hurley three-pointers that kickstarted a 19-0 run during the middle of the first quarter, giving Cleveland State a 19-11 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play.
Puerto Rico-Bayamon was then able to open the second quarter with a 4-0 run to close the gap to single digits, before a
Paula Pique basket put the Vikings back up by 10 points at 25-15 early in the frame. The Vikings then added seven straight points over the final portion of the second quarter, with an
Ella Van Weelden layup putting the Vikings up 31-15, before a
Madison Royal-Davis free throw sent Cleveland State into the halftime break up by 17 at 32-15.
After trading baskets throughout the first part of the third quarter, the Vikings were finally able to pull away late in the frame, as a 7-0 run – including five points from Leonard – put the Vikings up 54-32 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
The Vikings then carried their momentum into the third quarter, with back-to-back baskets from
Izabella Zingaro extending Cleveland State's lead to 58-32 less than 30 seconds into the frame. Although Puerto Rico-Bayamon was able to snap the scoring run, the Vikings answered with another 10-0 run, including a
Hanna Medina Kajevic basket putting the Vikings up 68-35 midway through the frame.
Sarah Hurley then extended Cleveland State's lead once again a few plays later, converting a three-pointer and then getting a steal and layup on the ensuing possession to put the score at 73-37 Vikings.
Cleveland State then controlled play for the remainder of the contest, coming away with the 82-45 victory to close out non-league play.
