Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Gets Back In Win Column With 72-62 Victory At Detroit Mercy

DETROIT, Mich. – The Cleveland State women's basketball team got back in the win column Sunday, picking up a 72-62 victory at Detroit Mercy. With the win, the Vikings now stand at 13-3 overall this season and 5-1 in Horizon League play.

Game Stats
-Mickayla Perdue paced the Vikings with 26 points, while Jordana Reisma added 16 and Destiny Leo and Sara Guerreiro both chipped in 11.
-Mya Moore grabbed a team-best six rebounds, while Jordana Reisma and Sara Guerreiro both recorded five boards on the day.
-Cleveland State shot 50-percent from the field on the game, including a .647 clip during the second quarter.
-The Vikings combined for 15 assists, including five from Mickayla Perdue.
-The Cleveland State defense recorded 15 steals on the day, including six from Mickayla Perdue.

Game Notes
-Mickayla Perdue recorded her 10th 20-point game of the season after finishing with 26 on the day.
-With 15 assists on the day, the Vikings notched their 13th game with 15+ assists on the year.
-Cleveland State's .500 clip from the field against the Titans marked the seventh game this year that the Vikings shot 50-percent or better this season.

The Game
After trailing by five points at 17-12 following the first 10 minutes of action, the Vikings responded with a 9-0 run to start the second frame, swinging the momentum into their favor. This stretch was kicked off by a Mickayla Perdue three-pointer on CSU's first possession of the quarter, while a Filippa Goula layup put the Vikings up 21-17 less than three minutes into the frame.

Although the Titans were able to stop this CSU scoring run, Perdue answered once again with another three-pointer at the 6:14 mark to put the Vikings up 24-19. A pair of Jordana Reisma baskets then extended Cleveland State's lead to 28-19, before another Reisma layup at the 2:13 mark gave the Vikings their first double-digit lead of the contest at 32-21.

The two teams then traded baskets over the final minutes of the quarter, with Cleveland State taking a 38-27 lead into the halftime break.

Detroit Mercy was able to work its way back into the contest throughout the third quarter, closing the gap to just one point at 41-40 before a trio of Perdue free throws put the Vikings back up by four points at 44-40 with just
over three minutes left in the frame. The Vikings then went on to hold a six-point lead at the end of the quarter, as a Destiny Leo three-pointer with just 33 seconds left on the clock gave CSU a 53-47 advantage.

The Vikings were able to swing the momentum back on their side during the opening minutes of the fourth quarter then, as back-to-back baskets from Sara Guerreiro and Perdue regained a 10-point lead for the Vikings at 63-53. Cleveland State then extended its lead to 69-55 using a 6-0 run over a span of 2:23 late in the quarter, before finally closing out the contest with a 72-62 victory to get back in the win column.

Cleveland State will now have a week off from competition, returning to the court at home when the Vikings host Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday, January 12.
