AKRON, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team picked up its third straight win Wednesday, earning a 3-1 victory at Akron. With the win, the Vikings are now 3-1 on the young season.

Liberty Torres paced the Viking offense with 20 kills, while Nia Hall added 17.

Ella Mihacevich recorded 46 assists on the day along with seven digs and two blocks.

The Viking defense was led by Emma Walker who tallied her second 20-dig match of the season after finishing right on the number at Akron. In addition, Vayda Delventhal posted 12 digs on the night.

The Cleveland State defense finished with 12.0 total blocks, including eight from Julia Jozefov and four from Torres.

After dropping the first set, the Vikings were able to even the match with a 25-21 victory in the second set.

Cleveland State carried its momentum into the third frame then, gaining an early 11-6 lead following a Torres kill. Despite Akron climbing back into the set and earning a 14-13 lead a few points later, the Vikings were able to regain control of the frame, closing out the 25-22 third set victory on a Hall kill.

The Vikings were once again able to gain an early advantage in the fourth set then, as a pair of blocks and a Hall kill gave CSU a 13-7 edge. The Vikings were able to hold a sizable lead throughout the rest of the frame, earning match-point on a Laken Voss kill, before a Torres kill put the set away at 25-21.

Next up for Cleveland State will be the Holiday Inn Express Cleveland Downtown CSU Invitational, as the Vikings are set to host UTRGV on Friday, September 6 and Wyoming on Saturday, September 7.
