Columbus, OH-The Cleveland State men's and women's fencing teams had a successful day at the season opening OSU Duals hosted by Ohio State University.
 
The men finished with a 3-2 record on the day in five dual meets, picking up wins over Ohio State's club team, Oberlin and Denison. The men competed well but narrowly fell to Georgia Tech, winning foil 5-4 but dropping the overall total 15-12.
 
The women's squad finished with a 2-2-1 record on the day. Cleveland State defeated the Buckeyes' club team and Oberlin, and drew with Georgia Tech with a 12-12 final score. The Vikings fell to Ohio State's varsity team and Denison.
 
The men's team finished with winning overall records in every weapon on the day. The men's epee squad of De'Mario Steele, Merik Pohl and Nolan Giovagnoli combined for the best record on the day as the trio finished 32-13 overall. Cleveland State won epee in three of the five duals including two 9-0 sweeps.
 
The women finished with winning records in foil and epee. The foil team comprised of Evelyn Malvestuto and Anna Quinn finished with the best record on the day at 25-15. The duo narrowly edged out the epee team who finished with a 24-21 record.
