Cleveland, OH-The Horizon League announced today its selections for the league's nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Cleveland State's
Jenna Deang is one of two nominees representing the Horizon League along with Allison Sherman, a track and field and cross-country student-athlete from Detroit Mercy.
The award dates back to 1991 and honors the top graduating female student-athletes in the country for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership throughout their college careers. The Woman of the Year Selection Committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 honorees — 10 from each division — from the conference-level nominees. The Top 30 honorees will be announced in the fall.
"On behalf of our program, we are so proud of
Jenna Deang for earning this nomination," said head coach
Amy Kyler. "Being nominated for this prestigious award is a testament to her unwavering dedication, relentless effort and extraordinary talent. Congratulations on reaching this remarkable milestone."
Deang has excelled in all areas throughout her time at Cleveland State. She graduated this past May with her bachelor's degree in marketing and was named the Valedictorian of the Monte Ahuja College of Business. She closed her academic career with a 3.9 GPA and was named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team three years in a row.
On the field she was a four-year starter compiling 184 career starts in the infield. She was named First-Team All-Horizon League in 2022 and 2023. She totaled 147 hits and 34 RBI over her CSU career and scored 84 runs. She capped her career by leading the Vikings to the 2024 Horizon League Tournament Championship and the program's third trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Deang was a leader amongst her peers throughout her time at Cleveland State. She served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as both a team representative and then as part of the Executive Board her senior year.
