Cleveland State Men's Tennis Picks Up Wins Against NKU & Walsh

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued its spring slate Sunday, picking up a 5-2 victory over Northern Kentucky and a 7-0 victory over Walsh. With the wins, the Vikings are now 18-6 on the year, while they also improved to 7-0 in #HLTennis action with the win over the Norse.

In Sunday's opening match the Vikings remained perfect in #HLTennis play, picking up a 5-2 win against Northern Kentucky.

The Vikings picked up the early doubles point with a 6-2 win from Carl Gedlitschka/JuandeDios Abboud at No. 1 doubles and a 6-3 win from Lincoln Battle/Devin Boyer at the No. 3 spot.

Gedlitschka then put Cleveland State up 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, before Mikael Erler notched a 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot to give the Vikings the 3-0 edge.

Cleveland State's clinching point came at No. 3 singles then, as Kade Mindry earned a 6-3, 7-6(2) victory to keep the Vikings undefeated in league matches this spring.

The Vikings also got a singles win at the No. 5 spot, as Nico Jamison earned a 6-1, 5-7, 1-0(3) win to cap off the 5-2 victory.

Cleveland State carried its momentum into the second match of the day, picking up the early 1-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches. At the top of the lineup Austin Staiger and Cole Chappell posted a 6-4 win, while Andrew Zimcosky and Mikael Erler notched a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles and Kade Mindry/Ty Rothchild picked up a 7-5 win at the No. 3 spot.

Chappell quickly gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles then, before Devin Boyer posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the top of the lineup to put the score at 3-0.

JuandeDios Abboud picked up Cleveland State's clinching point on the match, as he posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.

The Vikings then added singes wins from Zimcosky at No. 3 singles (6-3, 7-6(2)), Staiger at the No. 6 spot (6-4, 2-6, 1-0(12)) and Rothchild at No. 5 singles (6-4, 4-6, 1-0(8)).

The Vikings will close out regular season play at home next weekend, hosting Youngstown State on Saturday, April 20.
