ATLANTA, Ga. - The Cleveland State track & field team closed out action at the Emory Spring Break Classic Saturday, recording nine top-10 finishes, including an event win from Natalie Keller.
"After a tough week of training we had some outstanding performances this weekend and this meet was a good starting point for our outdoor season," head coach Jason Hudson said. "We have a lot to improve on and much work to do, so it will be very exciting to see how the team develops throughout the rest of the season."
Keller's win came in the 10,000 Meter Run, as she posted a time of 38:16.15 in her first collegiate 10K. In addition, Ariana Coats placed third in the 10,000, finishing with a time of 41:07.00.
Madelynn Madison and Tilly Nasende both recorded another pair of top-five finishes on the track Saturday, Madison finishing fourth in the 800 with a personal-best time of 2:17.90 and Nasende placing fifth in the 400 (58.86).
Grace Frye recorded another pair of top-three performances Saturday, placing third in both the Discus and Javelin events, marking school records in both. Frye had a mark of 40.97 in the Discus, and a mark of 37.43 in the Javelin.
The Vikings had another pair of top-10 finishes in the Discus from Landry Driskel (4th - 39.54) and Olivia Booth (10th - 36.21), while Karly Klaer finished 10th in the Javelin with a mark of 32.17.
Cleveland State also participated in the 4x100 Relay, with the quartet of Julia Rapp, Ky'Renae Matlock, Melinda Brown, and Nasende placing fourth with a time of 49.43.
The Vikings will be back in action at the end of the month, taking part in the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open hosted by Cedarville on Saturday, March 30.
