Cleveland, OH-Je'Shawn Stevenson was named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week, the league office announced today. Stevenson, a guard from Chicago, Illinois, picked up his first league weekly award after a standout week in Cleveland State's road trip to Wisconsin for the first two games of conference play.
Stevenson registered a career high 20 points in Saturday's win at Green Bay. He shot 50 percent from the field and finished 5-for-6 from the free throw line. He started the week with 16 points in Thursday's game at Milwaukee, good for an average of 18 points per game for the week.
All totaled Stevenson shot 48 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and finished 8-of-9 at the free throw line in the two games combined. He averaged three rebounds and 2.5 steals per game for the week.
This is the first weekly award won by a men's basketball student-athlete this season. The Vikings return to the court on Saturday to host Brescia after a week-long break for final exams. The game against the Bearcats tips off at 3:00 p.m. from Woodling Gymnasium.
