Cleveland State Men’s Basketball Rolls to Victory Over Midway

Cleveland, OH-The Cleveland State men's basketball team won its fourth consecutive game and improved to 8-6 on the season with a convincing 116-60 win over Midway at the Wolstein Center on Sunday afternoon. Every one of Cleveland State's 11 available players saw action in the game and all of them scored at least two points.
 
The Vikings shot 54 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range. CSU finished 18-for-21 from the free throw line, good for 85 percent, and led for 38 minutes. Cleveland State posted its third consecutive game with over 20 assists and single-digit turnovers. The Vikings set a new season high with 28 assists in the game and turned it over just seven times.
 
Overall, seven players finished in double figures in scoring led by Je'Shawn Stevenson who posted 23 points which was good for a career best. Stevenson was 8-for-11 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
 
Dylan Arnett posted 18 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field in 18 minutes of action. He pulled down six rebounds and helped to dominate inside along with Cleveland State's other post players, as the Vikings won the rebounding total 51-36.
 
Tahj Staveskie finished with 14 points, with the majority coming early in the game. Staveskie took seven shots, all of which were three-pointers, and connected on four of them. He added two free throws as well as two assists and a steal to his stat line.
 
KJ Debrick posted his first collegiate double-double with career highs in scoring and rebounding. Debrick finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds on 5-of-8 shooting from the field. Debrick nearly had a triple-double as he tied the school record with seven blocks.
 
Chaz Watson posted a career high with 12 points as he finished in double figures for the first time in his college career. After setting a career high with 37 points against Oakland on Thursday, Tevin Smith posted another double figure scoring performance with 11 points. Smith has scored in double figures in seven straight games. Ebrima Dibba also finished in double figures with 10 points. Dibba nearly had a double-double as he led the Vikings with eight assists.
 
Staveskie got the Vikings off to a good start offensively, as he connected on three in a row from long range to score the first nine points of the game for CSU.
 
The Vikings held a 21-15 lead at the first media timeout and worked their way to a double-digit lead as the first half wore on.
 
A Dibba layup on the fast break put the Vikings up 11 with 8:35 to play in the half, and the lead remained in double figures the rest of the way. Cleveland State pulled away to take a 30-point lead into the halftime break, it was 62-32 Vikings.
 
The Vikings continued to extend the lead throughout the second half, with the final margin serving as the largest lead of the day. Cleveland State outscored Midway 54-28 in the second half.
 
Cleveland State concludes the non-conference portion of the 2024-25 schedule with a 6-5 record in non-league games. The Vikings return to conference play next week, as Wright State comes to town for a 3:00 tip on Sunday, December 29. The game is part of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team with the women's game tipping first at noon.
