CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team wrapped up its regular season home slate Saturday, picking up a 3-0 victory over Youngstown State on Senior Day. Prior to the match, the Vikings honored the quartet of
Liberty Torres,
Madison Olinger,
Emma Walker, and
Ella Mihacevich.
With Saturday's win, the Vikings are now 19-8 overall this season and 10-6 in #HLVB play.
Offensively,
Liberty Torres had a team-best 16 kills, while
Nia Hall added 13 kills on the match.
Ella Mihacevich recorded 37 assists on the day, along with six digs and three service aces.
Emma Walker finished with a team-best 22 digs, while
Laken Voss chipped in 10.
For the match, the Vikings hit .325 as a team, including a .500 clip from Torres (16-0-32).
During the opening set, the Vikings were able to distance themselves midway through the frame, when a 4-0 run put the Vikings up 17-11 on a Hall kill. Cleveland State then held the lead for the rest of the frame, closing out the 25-15 victory on four straight kills from Hall, Koehler and Voss.
The second set was much of the same, as Cleveland State gained a 13-9 advantage on a YSU error, before notching 10 straight points to extend its lead to 23-10 on back-to-back Torres kills. The Vikings then closed out the 25-11 set victory with a Koehler kill and service ace.
During the third set the Vikings once again gained a sizeable lead midway through the frame, earning a 19-12 lead following a Hall and Appleby block. The Vikings then controlled play throughout the rest of the set, grabbing the 25-18 third set victory.
Cleveland State will close out regular season play at Milwaukee next weekend, with matches on Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16.
