Leo Sets CSU Career Three-Point Record Saturday Afternoon

AKRON, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball continued its 2024-25 campaign Saturday, dropping an 85-74 decision at Akron. The Vikings now stand at 2-2 on the young season.

Leo Sets CSU Career Three-Point Record
Destiny Leo finished the game with a Cleveland State Career Record 234 three-pointers after finishing with two on the game. With her first three pointer of the game at the 8:17 mark of the first quarter Leo tied the previous record, and then set the record with her second three-pointer of the game at the 4:43 mark of the second quarter.

Game Stats
-Mickayla Perdue finished with a team-best 25 points – including a 6-for-10 effort from three-point – while Jordana Reisma added 17 and Sara Guerreiro chipped in 14.
-Jordana Reisma grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Destiny Leo recorded six.
-As a team, the Vikings recorded 15 assists on the night, including seven from Mickayla Perdue and five from Destiny Leo.
-Cleveland State shot 49-percent from the field on the game, including a .692 clip during the second quarter (9-for-13).

Game Notes
-With 25 points on the game, Mickayla Perdue tallied her third 20-point game of the season.
-The .491 clip from the field marked the second time this season that the Vikings shot 45-percent or better.
-Sarah Hurley appeared in the starting lineup on Saturday, marking the first time of her collegiate career that she was part of the starting five.  

The Game
After the two teams went into the halftime break with the score knotted at 43-43, they played an even third quarter, with a late Mickayla Perdue three-pointer giving the Vikings a slim 62-61 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

Akron used a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter to regain the advantage then, earning a 67-62 lead midway through the frame. Cleveland State responded with a 6-2 run of its own, as baskets from Destiny Leo, Jordana Reisma and Perdue pulled the Vikings within one at 69-68 with 4:21 left on the clock.

Just under one minute later, the Vikings used four straight points from Reisma to tie the score at 72-72, before the two teams would go on to trade baskets over the next few possessions, with a Sara Guerreiro layup at the 2:38 mark once again knotting the score at 74-74.

The Zips then controlled play throughout the rest of the frame, coming away with the 85-74 win.
