GREEN BAY, Wisc. – Cleveland State (7-7-3) fell to Green Bay (11-6-2) in the Horizon League Quarterfinals by a score of 3-1.
The Phoenix started the scoring in the 13th minute on a Luke Nicholson volley from outside the box. Green Bay doubled the margin in the 33rd minute as Andrew Paolucci followed up a Josh Johansen saved shot.
The Vikings went into the half trailing 2-0 as the Green and White were outshot 9-5 in the opening half.
Green Bay pushed the margin to 3-0 in the 49th minute when Myles Sophanavong headed in a ball off passes from Tommy Coughlin and Johansen.
Cleveland State got on the board in the 76th minute as
Caleb Trowbridge finished off a pair of passes from
Marko Rimac and
Kyle Folds to trail 3-1.
In a game of a lot of shots, GB held a narrow 16-15 advantage but led 10-6 in the shots on goal category. Trowbridge and M. Rimac each had five shots with two on frame.
Matteo Correia was close behind with three.
Ryan Poling made five saves in goal.
