CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team clinched the series sweep over RMU Friday evening, picking up a 3-0 victory over the Colonials. With the win, the Vikings are now 16-6 on the year and 7-4 in Horizon League play.
Nia Hall led the Viking offense with 16 kills, while
JeriLynn Koehler added 10 and
Liberty Torres finished with nine.
Defensively,
Emma Walker had a team-best 22 digs, while
Vayda Delventhal added 13 and Hall posted nine.
With her 22 digs against RMU, Walker finished the match with 1,544 career digs, just one dig shy of tying the CSU Career Record.
As a team, the Vikings combined for six service aces, including two from Koehler.
During the opening set, the Vikings were able to work their way back into the frame, overcoming a late six-point deficit and holding off an RMU set-point, before tying the set at 24-24 on a
JeriLynn Koehler block. The Vikings then gained their first set-point at 25-24 on a Koehler and
Ella Mihacevich block, before RMU once again tied the set on the ensuing point.
Cleveland State responded with a Koehler kill to put the score at 26-25, before a Mihacevich kill closed out the 27-25 first set victory.
The Vikings then carried their momentum into the second set, coming away with a 25-21 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
During the third set Cleveland State was able to gain a 21-18 lead late in the match on a
Nia Hall kill, before gaining set point at 24-21 on another Hall kill. The Vikings then closed out the 25-21 victory with a Koehler kill, capturing the 3-0 match victory.
The Vikings will be back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Oakland for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
