CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State women's basketball head coach
Chris Kielsmeier has announced the promotion of
Chenara Wilson to Assistant Coach ahead of the 2024-25 campaign. Wilson will begin her second year on the staff after joining the Vikings prior to the 2023-24 season as the Special Assistant to the Head Coach.
Last season, Wilson helped the Vikings capture their first-ever Horizon League Regular Season Championship, while also notching their third straight 20-win campaign with a 29-6 overall record.
"Having Chenara on staff has been great for us over the last year, and we are looking forward to moving her into this new role as we kickoff the new season," Kielsmeier said. "In her short amount of time on staff, Chenara's personality has made an immediate impact on our team, while her connections to Cleveland State alumni have allowed us to continue growing that part of our program. Chenara will be a crucial piece to our staff as we look to Level Up during the 2024-25 season."
Wilson, a 2007 graduate of Cleveland State and member of the women's basketball team, joined CSU after spending eight seasons at Slippery Rock, where she spent seven years as an assistant coach and one season as the acting head coach. During her time as acting head coach, Wilson helped the program post its first winning season in over 20 years.
Prior to her time at SRU, Wilson was the head coach at Mercyhurst Northeast for three years, earning District Coach of the Year honors and leading the team to the National Tournament for just the second time in program history.
In addition, Wilson spent five years at Cuyahoga Community College, where she was an assistant coach.
