Cleveland State Women's Basketball Remains Perfect At Home With 68-56 Win Over Purdue Fort Wayne

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's basketball team remained perfect at home this season, picking up a 68-56 win against Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday. With the win, the Vikings are now 15-3 overall this season and 6-1 in #HLWBB play.

Game Stats
-Colbi Maples led the Viking offense with 29 points, while Mickayla Perdue added 19.
-Jordana Reisma grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds, while Carmen Villalobos added eight boards.
-As a team, the Vikings recorded 15 assists, including seven from Colbi Maples, four from Sara Guerrero and three from Carmen Villalobos.
-The Cleveland State defense notched 12 steals, with four coming from Carmen Villalobos.

The Game
After a back-and-forth start to the contest, the Vikings used an 11-0 run late in the second quarter to gain a double-digit lead, taking a 39-29 advantage into the halftime break.

Despite a slow start to the third quarter for both teams, back-to-back layups from Colbi Maples and Carmen Villalobos regained a double-digit lead for the Vikings at 44-32 with 4:37 left on the clock. The double-digit lead wouldn't last long though, as Purdue Fort Wayne closed out the frame with a 7-2 scoring run, closing the gap to 46-39 heading into the fourth quarter.

Purdue Fort Wayne was then able to continue trimming the lead over the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, until a Maples and-one at the 7:57 mark put the Vikings up by six at 50-44. Mickayla Perdue then added to the CSU lead on the next possession, as a basket just over 30 seconds later put the Vikings up 52-44.

The two teams traded baskets over the next few plays, until seven straight points from the Vikings regained a double-digit lead for CSU at 61-50 following a Sara Guerreiro three-pointer.

Although Purdue Fort Wayne was once again able to close the gap to single digits over its next few possessions, the Vikings were able to close the frame on a 6-2 run, holding on for the 68-56 victory.

The Vikings will hit the road for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, January 17, traveling to Wright State for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
