Cleveland State Volleyball Picks Up 3-1 Victory Over Purdue Fort Wayne

Box Score

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State volleyball team continued #HLVB play Tuesday evening, picking up a 3-1 victory over Purdue Fort Wayne to improve to 9-6 overall this season and 3-1 in league play.

Liberty Torres tallied a team-best 16 kills, while Laken Voss added 11 and Madison Olinger chipped in nine.

Emma Walker led the Viking defense with 21 digs, while Karly Klaer added 15 digs and 31 assists for her 10th double-double of the season.

JeriLynn Koehler and Olinger both tallied four blocks on the night to lead the Vikings.

After a back-and-forth start to the first set, the Vikings were able to distance themselves at 22-15, following a stretch of six straight points, ending with a Liberty Torres kill.

The Vikings then earned set point on a Madison Olinger kill, before a kill from Karly Klaer put the set away at 25-18.

The second set was much of the same then, as Cleveland State was able to once again distance itself midway through the frame, gaining an 18-12 lead on a Torres kill.

Although the Vikings carried the momentum over the next few points - even gaining set point on a Laken Voss kill - Purdue Fort Wayne rattled off a stretch of five straight points to put the score at 24-21 before the Vikings finally closed out the set with another Torres kill.

Despite dropping the third set, the Vikings responded with a 25-21 victory in the fourth set to claim the 3-1 match victory.

Cleveland State was once again able to distance itself late in the frame when a Voss kill put the Vikings up 20-16, before gaining a 22-17 edge on an Emma Walker service ace. The Vikings then gained set point on a Purdue Fort Wayne error, before eventually putting the match away on a Torres kill.

The Vikings will be back in action this weekend, traveling to Northern Kentucky (Friday, September 29) and Wright State (Saturday, September 30).
