Cleveland State Women's Soccer Tripped up by Kent State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Vikings (1-3-0) dropped a Sunday afternoon contest at home to Kent State (2-1-1) by a score of 2-0.

The Golden Flashes got on the board in the fifth minute as Siena Stambolich rocketed a shot into the upper right corner from the top of the box for a 1-0 lead.

Cleveland State nearly tied the game in the 34th minute as Emma Pompo's shot hit the left post and Erica Leinweber's follow-up was saved.

The contest went into intermission with the visitors in front 1-0, despite the Green and White holding a 4-2 edge in shots.

Kent State extended their lead in the 52nd minute as Alanna Raimondo finished off a ball that was initially saved by Liv Fain to make it 2-0.

The Vikings were unable to break through during the remainder of the half, falling to Kent State on Krenzler Field.

Cleveland State finished with nine shots on the afternoon, led by Brooke Opferman and Kathryn Ramicone with two apiece. Fain ended the match with three saves.

The Green and White will head to the state of Tennessee for their next two games, starting with Belmont on Friday, September 1 at 7:30 p.m.
