Cleveland State Volleyball Picks Up Sweep Over Milwaukee

CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the second straight day, the Cleveland State volleyball team was able to earn a victory against one of the top teams in the Horizon League, as the Vikings earned a 3-0 victory over Milwaukee on Saturday.

Liberty Torres had a team-best 15 kills on a .667 hitting percentage (15-1-21), while Laken Voss chipped in eight kills.

Karly Klaer tallied another double-double with 40 assists and 13 digs - along with five total blocks.

Emma Walker led the Viking defense with 18 digs.

During the opening set, the Vikings were able to gain a lead midway through the frame on back-to-back points from a Panther error and a JeriLynn Koehler kill. Cleveland State then held this advantage throughout the remainder of the set, extending the lead to 22-17 on a pair of kills from Laken Voss and Ainslie McLaughlin, before closing out the frame with a kill from Liberty Torres for the 25-20 victory.

Despite trailing early on in the second set, the Vikings were able to swing the momentum late in the frame, posting three straight points on a trio of kills from Voss and Madalynn Butler to knot the score at 17-17. The two teams then traded points until late in the set, when the Vikings got a pair of kills from Torres and Butler to gain a 23-21 advantage.

Cleveland State then closed out the frame with the final two points, earning the 25-22 second set victory on another Butler kill.

The Vikings were then able to carry their momentum into the third set, holding the advantage for the majority of the frame. After earning set point on a Torres kill, Cleveland State was able to hold off a late Panther run, regaining set point on a Butler kill before closing out the 26-24 set on a Panther error.

Cleveland State will return to the road next weekend, traveling to Youngstown State on Friday, October 20 and Robert Morris on Saturday, October 21.
