YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Cleveland State track & field team opened its 2022-23 indoor campaign Friday, competing at the YSU Icebreaker.
"We had a great first meet of the indoor season today, we have a very young team so it was important to have a good showing at this meet to get us started," head coach Jason Hudson said. "I'm very pleased with how everyone performed today, especially the group of Ariana, Ana, Dynesty, and Promise. It's a great starting point and gives us a lot to build on going forward during the indoor campaign."
Cleveland State's top finishes on the day came in a pair of distance events, as Ariana Coats placed eighth in the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 19:44.18 and Ana Crangle matched her eighth place finish in the Mile Run after posting a time of 5:37.41.
Dynesty Ervin also recorded a top-10 finish for the Vikings at the YSU Icebreaker, notching a ninth-place finish in the 400 Meter Dash after posting a time of 59.80.
Cleveland State had a strong showing in the 800 Meter Run as well, as Madelynn Madison (2:33.01) and Kayla Zdanowicz (2:39.01) finished 12th and 15th, respectively.
The group of Leah Hoover, Promise Edeh, Julia Rapp, Jillian McArdle, Averi Hardiman, Melanie Ortiz, and Madison Morris all made their CSU indoor track & field debuts on Friday.
Cleveland State will be back in action next week at the Tom Wright Open hosted by Bowling Green on Saturday, December 10 – the Vikings' second of nine meets during the indoor campaign.
