Cleveland State Women's Basketball Closes Viking Invitational with 64-40 Victory Over St. Bonaventure

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's basketball team closed out play in the Hampton Inn Cleveland Downtown Viking Invitational Saturday, earning a 64-40 victory over St. Bonaventure. With the win, the Vikings finished the week with a 3-0 record and improved to 5-1 on the young season.

GAME STATS
· Destiny Leo led the Vikings with 11 points, while Amele Ngwafang, Sara Guerreiro and Deja Williams all finished with eight points.
· Brittni Moore grabbed a team-best nine rebounds, while Amele Ngwafang and Jordana Reisma both recorded six boards.
· The Vikings combined for 13 steals on the game, including three from Destiny Leo and Gabriella Smith.
· Cleveland State recorded six blocked shots against St. Bonaventure, including two from Amele Ngwafang.

GAME NOTES
· Cleveland State has now won five straight games, and finished the Hampton Inn Cleveland Downtown Viking Invitational with a perfect 3-0 record.
· 10 of the 12 Vikings that got in the game got in the scoring column against St. Bonaventure, including Shadiya Thomas who converted her first field goal as a Viking.
· With the win, the Vikings remain perfect in the Wolstein Center this season.

THE GAME
After a tightly contested start to the first half, the Vikings were able to convert three straight three-pointers over the final 2:30 of the second quarter from Deja Williams and Gabriella Smith, taking a 30-16 lead into the halftime break.

The Vikings then used a 7-0 run to extend their lead over the first three minutes of the third quarter, gaining a 37-16 advantage on a Smith layup. Cleveland State went on to hold a 20-point lead for the majority of the frame, with back-to-back baskets from Barbara Zieniewska and Aminata Ly putting the score at 47-22 with 2:04 left on the clock.

The two teams then traded baskets to close out the quarter, with Cleveland State taking a 49-29 advantage into the final 10 minutes of action.

The Vikings were then able to control play throughout the fourth quarter, closing out the contest on a 4-1 run to claim the 64-40 victory on a Shadiya Thomas jumper – the first points of her Cleveland State career.

Cleveland State will open #HLWBB play next week, hosting Oakland on Friday, December 2 and Detroit Mercy on Sunday, December 4.
