Cleveland State Picks Up Sweep Over Robert Morris

Box Score

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team closed out its current three-match homestand Tuesday evening, earning a 3-0 victory against Robert Morris.

Offensively, the Viking trio of Lydia Latimer, Madison Olinger and Laken Voss all tallied 10 kills, while Karly Klaer notched 33 assists as Cleveland State recorded a .387 hitting percentage.

Voss also notched a team-best 13 digs, with Klaer adding 10 and Audrey McConihe chipping in seven.

Olinger tallied five blocks on the night, while Latimer added four and Butler tallied three.

During the opening frame, the Vikings were able to distance themselves early on, going on a 4-0 run that was capped off by a Lydia Latimer kill for a 9-4 advantage. Although RMU was able to snap the scoring run with a kill of its own, the Vikings responded with back-to-back kills from Karly Klaer and Liberty Torres, forcing the Colonials into an early timeout.

Out of the timeout, Cleveland State picked up three of the next four points, extending its lead to 14-6 on a Madalynn Butler and Madison Olinger block. A few plays later the Vikings were able to run off four straight points to earn a 19-8 lead on another Latimer kill, before closing out the 25-12 first set victory on back-to-back points from a Laken Voss ace and a Latimer kill.

The second set was much of the same, as the Vikings used a 5-1 run midway through the frame to gain a 13-6 lead on a Butler and Olinger block. Cleveland State controlled play over the next few points then, extending its lead to 21-12 on a Klaer kill and Olinger block, before closing out the frame with three straight points – including a Sarah DeGeorge ace and Olinger kill – earning the 25-14 second set victory.

During the third frame the two teams played a back-and-forth start to the set, before the Vikings tallied three straight points to gain a 15-12 lead on a Butler and Latimer block. Cleveland State was then able to add to its lead a few plays later with back-to-back kills from Liberty Torres, earning a 19-15 advantage to force an RMU timeout.

Out of the timeout, the Vikings tallied five straight points to gain set point on another Torres kill, before eventually putting the set – and the match – away on an Olinger kill.
