Cleveland State Men's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Finale to Akron

AKRON, Ohio – Cleveland State wrapped up non-conference play with a 4-0 loss against Akron on Tuesday evening. The Vikings will conclude the regular season on Saturday at Wright State and with a victory in that contest, the Green and White will claim their first Horizon League Regular Season Championship.

THE GAME
Akron netted the opening goal in the 15th minute as Johnny Fitzgerald tapped the ball into the back of the net off a deflected Jason Shokalook shot. Fitzgerald doubled the Zips lead in the 35th minute with a left-footed shot from 12-yards out off a pass from Malik Miller. Cleveland State went into the intermission trailing the home team, 2-0.

The Zips bumped their lead to 3-0 just five minutes into the new half as Carlo Ritaccio scored off a pass from Daniel Strachan. In the 60th minute, Ryan Kingsford scored off an assist from Will Jackson and Josef Paulus.

Akron held a 14-3 advantage in shots with Andrew Nicholas accounting for the lone Vikings shots on goal. Omeed Naeemy made a pair of saves in goal.
