CLEVELAND -- For the 26th consecutive semester Cleveland State University student-athletes surpassed a cumulative 3.00 grade point average after the compilation of grades for the fall 2019 semester. The Vikings also established a new school record for a term grade point average.
The 338 Cleveland State student-athletes combined to record a 3.326 grade point average, which marks the third consecutive term above a combined 3.30 cumulative GPA and the fifth consecutive semester Viking student-athletes have compiled above a 3.20 cumulative GPA.
Cleveland State also established a school record with a term GPA of 3.313, which topped the previous high of 3.281 set in the fall of 2017.
"We are extremely proud of the incredible academic performances this semester by our Viking student-athletes," said Scott Garrett, CSU Director of Athletics. "A number of teams made significant improvements this semester, leading to a record term GPA for the department. This success would not have been possible without the work of our outstanding academic advising team of Winnie Lane, Laura Klimchock, and Meghan Sanniti, learning specialist Joe Gotchall, the leadership provided by Associate AD for Academics, Compliance and Student-Athlete Development Danielle Cohea, and the abundant support services provided to CSU students across our magnificent campus."
Sixteen of the 18 Cleveland State teams posted a team grade-point average above 3.00, including the men's basketball team which earned a 3.05 GPA.
A total of 59.2 percent of Cleveland State student-athletes were recognized on the Dean's List, which marks the fifth consecutive semester that over half of all student-athletes were so honored.
Additionally, 33 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.00 grade point average during the fall semester.
During the fall graduation ceremony held on Dec. 15 in the Wolstein Center, Hayden Parente and Noah Pio of the men's soccer program and Toni Dickson of the women's soccer program each received their diplomas.
