INDIVIDUAL & TEAM RESULTS
NORTON, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team continued the 2018 campaign Saturday, competing at the Tommy Evans Invitational.
"I'm happy with how the team performed today, especially after a tough week of training," head coach Jason Hudson said. "They performed well on heavy legs, and really pushed to run a good, solid race. Anna put herself in a great position early in the race and it paid off for her. We were a lot better with our gaps this week, but that is still something that we need to continually improve on this season."
The Vikings finished fifth as a team, paced by sophomore Anna Brandt who finished fourth individually. Brandt, who was Cleveland State's top finisher for the second straight race, crossed the finish line in a career-best 5K time of 18:19, bettering her old career-best by six seconds.
Cleveland State had three additional top-40 finishers in Jessica Finley, Grace Holmes and Lily Michael. Finley placed 30th in a time of 19:06, while Holmes (33rd – 19:19) and Michael (38th – 19:31) both improved on their season-best times that they recorded last weekend in their first collegiate race.
Olivia Hammons (19:36) and Kylie Scott (19:38) were the next two finishers for the Vikings, followed by Heather McArdle (20:04) and Graicen Riley (20:19). McArdle and Riley were running in just their second collegiate race, and both bettered their times from last weekend.
Sophomore Abbey Rojeck set a career-best time on Saturday, finishing the 5K course in 20:40 – one second faster than her previous career-best. Samantha Meyer (20:59) and Kenzie Baker (21:04) also competed for the Vikings.
Cleveland State will now take a couple weeks off from competition, returning to action at the All-Ohio Championship on Saturday, September 29.
