Dohar & Stover Lead Vikings To 3-1 Victory Over Milwaukee On Senior Day

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team got back on the winning track Sunday afternoon, picking up a 3-1 victory over Milwaukee, paced by the senior duo of Rachel Stover and Rachael Dohar on Senior Day. With the win, the Vikings improve to 17-9 overall this season and 11-3 in Horizon League play, and remain tied for first place in the #HLVB standings.

Playing in their final regular season match in Woodling Gymnasium, Stover and Dohar both had standout performances, Stover finishing with 14 kills and nine blocks, and Dohar recording 21 digs and seven assists. Stover's nine blocks tied a career-high, while Dohar posted her 13th 20-dig performance of the season.

Stover was one of four Vikings to finish with double-digit kills, as Sara Skeens tallied 17 on the match, while Trinniti Hall added 15 and Emily DeGeorge notched 12. Christina Grecol finished with 51 assists on the day, marking her fourth 50-assist match of the year.

Defensively, Dohar and DeGeorge led the Vikings with 21 digs each, while Jordan Verbiak added 17, and Grecol and MacKenzie Conner both posted 10.

As a team, the Vikings finished with a season-high tying 17.0 total blocks, led by a career-high 12 from Hannah Greene. Stover and DeGeorge both added nine blocks each, while Hall added three.

During the first set, both teams gave everything they had, as the Vikings had to battle for an extra-point victory at 31-29. After trailing 21-17, the Vikings worked their way back into the frame, and eventually tied the set at 23-23 on a Grecol kill. The two teams then traded points throughout the rest of the set, until Cleveland State was finally able to post back-to-back points on a DeGeorge kill and a Stover service ace.

After dropping the second set, Cleveland State rallied back during the third frame, picking up a 25-22 victory to gain a 2-1 lead in the match. Once again the Vikings had to battle from behind, as they posted seven straight points to gain a 23-19 advantage on a Greene and DeGeorge block. The Vikings were then able to control the rest of the frame, closing out the set on another DeGeorge kill.

The Vikings carried their momentum into the fourth set then, as they were able to capture a 25-16 victory to clinch the match. Midway through the frame Cleveland State was able to get out to a 20-13 advantage on a Hall kill, and then went on to finish the set with three straight points on a Skeens kill, Panther error and a Greene and DeGeorge block.

Cleveland State will close out the regular season next weekend, traveling to Wright State on Friday, November 9 and Northern Kentucky on Saturday, November 10.
