Volleyball Extends Winstreak With 3-1 Victory At Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Cleveland State volleyball team picked up its sixth straight win Sunday afternoon, earning a 3-1 victory at Milwaukee to remain perfect in Horizon League play. With the win, the Vikings improve to 12-6 overall this year and stand at 6-0 in #HLVB action.

With the 6-0 start in league action, Cleveland State is off to its best #HLVB start in program history, and remains as the only undefeated team in league play.

The Cleveland State offense was led by the trio of Trinniti Hall (15 kills), Hannah Greene (14), and Rachel Stover (12), with Greene's 14 kills marking a career-high for the sophomore. Greene's 14 kills came on a .500 hitting percentage (14-0-28) – marking the second time this season that she has tallied a .500 clip or better.

Freshman Christina Grecol captained the Viking offense posting 47 assists on Cleveland State's 55 kills, while also adding nine digs and a pair of kills.

Emily DeGeorge finished with a team-high 21 digs marking her third 20-dig performance of the season, while Rachael Dohar added 14 kills and MacKenzie Conner tallied 13.

As a team, the Vikings finished with 15.0 total blocks, including seven from Greene and six from Stover, Hall and Sara Skeens.

After dropping the first set, the Vikings responded with a convincing 25-12 win during the second set to tie the match at 1-1 heading into intermission.

During the third frame, the two teams traded points throughout the beginning of the frame, until Cleveland State went on a 6-0 run to gain a 20-16 advantage on a Hall service ace and Milwaukee error. From here, the Vikings were then able to control play for the rest of the set, earing the 25-19 victory on a Greene kill to take the 2-1 advantage in the match.

The fourth set was much of the same, as the two teams traded points early on in the frame, until the Vikings were finally able to distance themselves with a 6-2 run, earning an 18-14 advantage on another Greene kill. From here, the Vikings were able to hold the lead for the rest of the set, coming away with the 25-18 victory to earn the 3-1 match win.

Cleveland State will close out the first half of Horizon League play on the road next weekend, traveling to Green Bay on Friday, October 12 and UIC on Saturday, October 13.
