Sowinski's Hat Trick Leads Vikings Past Oakland, 4-2

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Dani Sowinski netted the fourth hat trick in school history and Jenna Prathapa scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year to lead Cleveland State to a 4-2 win over Oakland on Saturday night at Krenzler Field.

CSU improved to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League, while Oakland fell to 0-10-1 overall (0-2 HL).

THE GOALS

  • Sowinski gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead at the 7:35 mark with her first goal of the season. Prathapa tallied the assist as she sent a pass behind the Oakland defense to Sowinski who went on to beat several defenders on the left side, working her way into the box and sending a shot to the far post.
  • Prathapa's team-leading sixth goal of the season gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead at the 22:46 mark as she took a through ball from Lorenzo and beat the goalkeeper.
  • Prathapa's six goals are tied for the fourth most in a season in school history and the most by a CSU freshman in a season.
  • Oakland sliced the lead to 2-1 at the 36:38 mark on a goal from Vanessa Ogbonna, but Sowinski came right back just over a minute later with her second goal of the contest.
  • Vento tallied the assist on Sowinski's second goal, taking possession of the ball near midfield and sending a through ball to Sowinski to extend CSU's lead to 3-1 at the half.
  • Sowinski recorded her third goal of the game in the 67th minute on a penalty kick after she was taken down from behind in the box.
  • The Golden Grizzlies added a goal with nine minutes left when Jenny Rosonke scored her first goal of the year.

  • The Vikings outshot Oakland, 15-5, including a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal.
  • CSU also took five corner kicks to one for Oakland.
  • CSU's four goals were the most since a 7-0 win over Chicago State on Aug. 23, 2015.
