Walnoha's Goal Lifts CSU Past League Leading NKU; Vikings Clinch Berth in HL Tournament

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Cleveland State sophomore Elaina Walnoha made her first career goal a memorable one.

Walnoha scored just before halftime to give the Vikings a 1-0 win at Northern Kentucky in Horizon League women's soccer action. The Vikings handed League-leading and defending League champion NKU its first League loss of the season and also clinched a berth in the Horizon League tournament with the victory.

The Vikings improved to 9-8 overall and 5-3 in the League, while the Norse fell to 9-5-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the Horizon League.

THE GOAL

  • Walnoha's goal came at the 42:08 mark and proved to be the game-winner.
  • She took advantage of a failed clear from the Norse, taking possession of the ball and beating the NKU goalkeeper to the right.
  • It was the first goal in 27 career matches for the sophomore.

IN THE NET

  • Jamie Daniels made four saves for the Vikings to earn her fourth shutout of the season.
  • She now has 11.5 career shutouts, tied for second place all-time in the CSU record books.
