Strong Second Half Leads Vikings To 64-56 Victory At Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio –  A strong second half performance and a breakout game from freshman Jade Ely helped the Cleveland State women's basketball team claim a 64-56 victory over Bowling Green to close out non-league play Wednesday evening. The Vikings will now enter Horizon League play with a 5-6 record.

Game Stats
· Khayla Livingston led four Vikings in double-figure scoring, as she posted 18 points against Bowling Green.
· Jade Ely recorded 17 points, while Nicolete Newman added 14 and Ashanti Abshaw posted 10 points.
· Jade Ely grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds, while Ashanti Abshaw and Khayla Livingston both recorded six boards.
· The trio of Nicolete Newman, Jade Ely, and Khayla Livingston all posted two steals on the game.

· Jade Ely made the first start of her collegiate career at Bowling Green, entering the starting lineup with Nicolete Newman, Ashanti Abshaw, Shadae Bosley, and Mariah Miller.
· With her three blocked shots against Bowling Green, Shadae Bosley is now tied for 10th in the CSU Career Record book with 57 career blocks.
· Jade Ely recorded her first career double-double with her 17 points and 10 rebounds, while both marked season-highs for the freshman.

The Game
After going into the halftime break trailing by six points at 29-23, the Vikings opened the third quarter with a 14-0 run and a strong defensive effort to gain a 37-29 advantage midway through the frame. The Cleveland State defense held the Falcons off the board until the 5:48 mark, when Bowling Green split a pair of free throws to put the score at 37-30 with just under six minutes left in the quarter.

The Vikings responded with another 5-0 run to extend their lead to 42-30 before the Falcons closed out the frame on an 11-7 run to put the score at 49-41 Cleveland State going into the final 10 minutes of action.

The two teams traded baskets over the opening minutes of the fourth quarter then, until a 10-0 run from the Falcons closed the gap to 56-53 with less than three minutes left in the contest. A Khayla Livingston three-pointer at the 2:07 mark put the Vikings back up by six at 59-53, before Cleveland State was able to secure the victory with five more points over the final minute on five free throws. The 64-56 victory for the Vikings gave Cleveland State its fifth victory during non-league play, as the Vikings will enter Horizon League play with a 5-6 record.

· Cleveland State will begin Horizon League play next time out, hosting Youngstown State at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31. This will be the first of six doubleheaders for the Cleveland State basketball teams, as the men will host Milwaukee at 3:30 p.m. following the women's contest.
