CSU Splits Doubleheader at Morehead State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Alex Radjen struck out 10 in a complete game and Cynthia Woodard hit her league-leading 13th homer of the season as Cleveland State earned a 3-2 win over Morehead State in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

MSU won the opener, 5-4, with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

CSU is now 16-11 this season, while the Eagles are now 12-15.

The Vikings took a 2-0 lead after three innings in game two as Alisha Silva had an RBI groundout in the second and Erica McNew drove in Woodard with a single in the third. Woodard extended the lead to 3-0 with a solo homer in the fifth inning.

The Eagles added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but Radjen retired the Eagles in order in the seventh to seal the win and improve to 6-4 this year. She gave up six hits and two runs (one earned), while fanning 10 and walking just one.

Nena Doran, Woodard and Katelind Phillips all had two hits in the second game.

CSU wasted little time in taking an early lead in game one as Doran led off the contest with a home run. The Eagles came back with three runs in the second to take a 3-1 lead, but Woodard cut into CSU's deficit with an RBI single in the third.

The middle part of CSU's order came through again in the fifth, this time producing two runs with two outs to give the Vikings a 4-3 lead.

Susan Knight drew a two-out walk and would score on Woodard's double. McNew followed with an RBI single to give the Vikings the lead.

It stayed that way until the seventh when the Eagles used back-to-back sacrifice flies for the walk-off win.

Woodard went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the opener, while Doran was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Vikings are back in action for a three-game Horizon League series at Green Bay this weekend, playing a doubleheader on Friday (April 3) at 3:00 p.m. EST and a single game on Saturday (April 4) at 2:00 p.m. EST.
