Vikings Draw With Milwaukee in Senior Day Battle

Box Score

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's soccer team grabbed another point in the Horizon League standings on Saturday, finishing in a scoreless draw with Milwaukee.

The Vikings moved to 6-7-2 (2-3-2) while the Panthers record moves to 3-9-3 (1-4-2). The Vikings currently hold eight points in the Horizon League standings, tied for the final spot in the Horizon League tournament as it sits.

On a warmer-than-expected fall day where CSU's Aleksandar Drobac, Nick Kane, Victor Zamora, Alvaro Pichardo, Cheo Armstrong and Mustafa Raychouni were honored for Senior Day, neither team could find its rhythm early on. At the halftime break, both teams totalled just five shots between the two and two corner kick opportunitie in a scoreless period.

The struggles continued on the offensive side for both teams in the second half, though each team did manage to record a shot on goal with few breakaway opportunities.

Despite the chances, the game headed to overtime where play became more physical.

In an overtime that saw three cautions given in just twenty minutes of play, neither team was able to find the back of the net and the score remained 0-0 at the final whistle.

For the third game in the last four, the Cleveland State defense was impressive in holding the opposition to a shutout, this time for 110 minutes. Raychouni, Kareem Banton, James Milli and Sergio Manesio were again the main members of the back line.

The Vikings totalled seven shots, two from Kevin Blackwood and Gianluca DiFranco and one apiece from Milli, Manesio and Dan Koniarczyk.

Cleveland State will have its first week-long break from action in over three weeks, heading north to Green Bay next Saturday (Oct. 31) at 8:00 p.m. The Vikings will play their regular-season finale on Friday, Nov. 6 at UIC, also at 8:00 p.m.
