WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Cleveland State cross country team continued its 2014 season at the #JennaStrong Fall Classic Friday afternoon, placing sixth out of 43 total teams.
"This was another great race for us, I'm proud of how everyone ran on somewhat of a difficult course. This is a very tight course and we were able to manage it very well and run the race how we wanted to," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "We had a group of returners who significantly improved on their times from last season at this course and that is very promising for the last few races this season. We are continuing to improve day-in and day-out, and hopefully we can carry that momentum to the Horizon League Championship in two weeks."
The Vikings had two runners in the top-40, and three runners with sub 20-minute 5K times. Ashlyn Woods once again paced the Vikings with a time of 19:05, which was good for a 20th overall finish. Woods' time ranks eighth on the CSU top-performances list – her second top-10 time on the list.
Katie Webb placed 36th overall with a time of 19:34, while Alanna Shamrock finished 66th with a time of 19:58. Marissa Ward was just shy of breaking the 20-minute mark, crossing the finish line in 20 minutes flat, placing 69th overall.
Samantha Butterbaugh was the final Viking to finish in the top-100, placing 71st overall with a time of 20:02, while Amelia Holt (21:30) and Madison Scagnetti (21:32) also scored for Cleveland State.
Also competing for the Vikings were Megan O'Keefe, Sierra Swigert, Emily Marshall, Erin Pavick, Ashley Lydic, Sarah Mallow, and Kristin McCarthy.
The Vikings will now have a week off from competition, before the Horizon League Championship on Saturday, November 1. The 2014 Horizon League Championship will be held at the Wayne E. Dannehl Course Country Course in Kenosha, Wis.

**The 2014 edition of the #JennaStrong Fall Classic – formerly called the Wilmington Fall Classic – was the second honoring Wilmington student-athlete Jenna Parlette, who tragically passed away last year. The race supported Epilepsy awareness, something that Jenna worked tirelessly to support.
