Vikings Fall to Oakland, 2-1

Box Score

CLEVELAND, Ohio-  The Cleveland State men's soccer team fell to Oakland 2-1 on Saturday night at Krenzler Field.

The Vikings (3-6-0, HL 0-1-0), played a tough defensive game and had chances at the net throughout the contest, but fell short.

In the first half, Oakland put up the first points of the match when midfielder Matt Dudley scored his second goal of the season from the top of the box at the 24:47 minute-mark to give the Grizzlies an early 1-0 lead.  The Vikings defense kept Oakland away from the net for the rest of the half.

In the second half, CSU had an offensive attacking mentality when coming out of the locker room.  At the 74:45 minute-mark, freshman midfielder Nick Neumann would tie the score at one when he scored his first goal of the year off a rebound to give the Vikings a spark.  Cleveland State continued to scrap for every ball, but Oakland would break the tie with just five and a half minutes left in the match (85:28 minute-mark) when Raphael Reynolds scored just inside the box, placing the ball to the far post of the net, which would give Oakland the 2-1 win.

Despite the loss, goalkeeper Nick Ciraldo had five saves in the contest and sophomore Danilo Radjen played an exceptional game attempting two shots and one on goal.

The Vikings will be back in action looking to get back in the win column on Wednesday night at Krenzler Field (Oct. 2) 7:30 p.m., where they will play the Cincinnati Bearcats.
