Canfield, Ohio- The Cleveland State Vikings fell behind 2-0 in the first inning Sunday and were unable to complete the comeback, dropping a 2-1 final to Youngstown State in Horizon League action.
The loss drops the Vikings, who had won the first two games of the series Saturday, to 12-18 on the year and 3-3 in Horizon League play.
Youngstown State used two hits, a lead-off double by Caroline Krombach and two-out two RBI single by Sarah Ingalls to left center to push both their runs across in the first inning.
The Vikings were able to respond in the third inning with one of the squad's three hits on the day, a Cynthia Woodardsolo home run. Woodard, who went 1-2 on the day, is now hitting .247 in 2013 with four home runs and seven RBI's.
On the mound for CSU two pitchers combined for the six innings of work. Alex Radjen fell to 4-4 on the year as she pitched two innings to begin the game, allowing two runs (zero earned runs) on three hits. Freshman Susan Knightthen came in in relief of Radjen, pitching four innings of four hit ball, allowing no runs.
Cleveland State will be back home for two Horizon League home series this week, as they will first take on Detroit Wednesday and Thursday, before then facing Loyola Saturday and Sunday.
