YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Cleveland State volleyball team continued Horizon League play Friday evening, as the Vikings defeated Youngstown State, 3-0. With the win, the Vikings gave head coach Chuck Voss his 200th career victory at CSU.
Set scores against the Penguins were; 25-22, 25-11, 25-20.
"I thought we came out and played hard today," Voss said. "We came into today's match with some momentum from last weekend and I think that carried over into tonight. It's always tough to open league play on the road, and we will definitely be happy to be back in Woodling next weekend."
Kara Koch had a match-high 18 kills, while Marie Frease and Kerry Winchester each added seven. Koch registered a double-double against YSU, also adding 12 digs. Amy Grabiec had a team-best 16 digs, with Jordan Goad posting 23 assists and a career-best six service aces.
Frease led the Vikings with five blocks, including one solo, while Goad and Jackie Dabbelt each posted two.
CSU dominated play throughout the entire match, as the Vikings held YSU to a .133 team hitting percentage, including a -.043 attack percentage in the second set. Cleveland State on the other hand, posted a team hitting percentage of .368 in the first set and .360 in the second set en route to their third straight Horizon League victory and their fourth consecutive win overall.
The Vikings are next in action a week from today, as CSU welcomes Milwaukee to Woodling Gym for a 7:00 p.m. contest on Friday, September 30.
