BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Cleveland State volleyball team picked up two wins on the final day of the Hokie Classic, earning a five-set win over Indiana in the morning before sweeping High Point on Saturday afternoon.

The two wins allowed the Vikings to finish the two-day, season opening event with a 2-1 record.

Marie Frease and Amy Grabiec were both named to the all-tournament team.

"I thought we played two good, solid matches today," head coach Chuck Voss said. "We battled hard to win a five-set match against Indiana and came back on a short turnaround to win against High Point. There were a lot of positives that we saw this weekend and I'm excited to get back to work this week."

Match scores against Indiana were 25-18, 23-25, 25-16, 16-25, 16-14.

Match scores against High Point were 25-19, 25-21, 25-17.

The Vikings got off to a hot start in set one against the Hoosiers, committing just two attack errors in 26 attempts, hitting .462 for the set. After IU tied the match at one set apiece, the Vikings once again were on point at the net, hitting .419 (14-1-31) in set three.

The Hoosiers evened things again at 2-2 with a win at set four and would go on to fight off four match points by CSU in the fifth set before back-to-back kills from Marie Frease and Jackie Dabbelt ended the match.

Kara Koch led the Vikings with 22 kills, while Dabbelt added 14, Frease tallied 11 and Kerry Winchester chipped in 10. Jordan Goad notched a double-double of 48 assists and 11 digs, while Amy Grabiec made a match-best 27 digs.

Things were a little easier against High Point as CSU hit .295 (50-17-112) as sophomore Annie Djukic got the not as the starting setter, dishing out 41 assists with nine digs.

Frease and Megan Barhorst hammered out 13 kills each, while Koch finished with 11. Grabiec amassed 12 digs.

The Vikings are back in action next weekend when CSU plays three matches at the Michigan State Invitational, beginning with a 7:00 p.m. match with Toledo on Friday (Sept. 2). CSU will also play Michigan State at 12:00 p.m. and St. John's and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday (Sept. 3).
