BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Vikings volleyball team dropped its season opener, falling to Virginia Tech in three games.

The host Hokies cruised in the first two games, claiming 25-15 and 25-20 victories, before being pushed to the limit and sealing the deal with a 33-31 victory in a thrilling game three.

In game one, too many Viking errors led to their demise. Virginia Tech came out firing and took the early lead, and CSU never came back to tie the game. Game one saw CSU commit nine errors compared to just eight kills, earning them a -.026 hitting percentage.

CSU put up a much better effort in game number two, but ultimately dropped the game which saw the score tied five times.

A riveting third game in which there were 20 tie scores and three lead changes concluded the night. Ultimately the Hokies came away with a win in the extended game that needed 64 points to be decided.

Jackie Dabbelt and Megan Barhorst tied for the team lead with seven kills, while Marie Frease and Kara Koch contributed six each.

Setter Jordan Goad dished out 19 assists to her teammates and Annie Djukic chipped in seven more.

The Vikings will be in action again tomorrow (Saturday - August 27) for two more games. They'll meet Indiana University for the first time ever at 10:30 a.m. and wrap up the tournament against High Point, a team Cleveland State defeated 3-1 a season ago.
