WESTLAKE, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's tennis team swept IPFW, 7-0, in nonconference action on Saturday night at the Paramount Tennis Center.
The win improves the Vikings to 1-2 this spring.
"I felt like we put together a good, solid match today," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We played some solid doubles and had everybody playing well at the same time, even though we didn't win all three doubles matches. We were still able to get that point and I thought that gave us some momentum heading into singles where we played very well today."
CSU won the doubles point by winning at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and then went on to sweep all six singles matches in straight sets to earn the sweep over the Mastadons.
Rob Fox and John Haley teamed for an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while Chris Klepatz and Matt Ford won at No. 2 doubles, 8-2.
"We have been improving at doubles every time we take the court and I felt like we were able to take another step forward today," Etzkin said. "We had a new lineup, but I don't think we missed a beat at all. And that carried over to singles where I thought we played one of our best all around matches of the spring."
The Vikings will be in action two times next weekend, hosting Niagara at 6:00 p.m. next Saturday (Feb. 5) before hosting St. Bonaventure at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday (Feb. 6).
