MUNCIE, Ind. - Six members of the men's tennis team advanced past the first round of play, as did two doubles teams, in the first day of the Ball State Invitational on Friday (Sept. 24).
"The team did a nice job," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "They played smart in windy conditions. The team was focused from the first point on today, and it showed in the results."
Junior Yannick Goosens, seniors Rob Fox and Chris Klepatz and freshman Matt Kuelker all won their opening round matches in the Flight A singles bracket, with Goosens and Fox advancing to the quarterfinal round.
Seniors John Haley and Adam Perkins won singles matches in the Cardinal bracket of the tourney. Haley advanced to the semifinal round.
In addition, the teams of Goosens/Kuelker and Fox/Haley won opening round matches in the Flight A doubles bracket.
"We're hoping to come out tomorrow and play well again, Etzkin said.
The Vikings will be back in action again tomorrow (Sept. 25) in the second day of the Ball State Invitational.
