BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Yannick Goossens and John Haley each won two singles matches today and will play for titles in their respective flights on Sunday at the Indiana Invitational as CSU continued its first tournament of the fall season.
"I thought we had another very productive day," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "I think we are showing how deep our lineup is capable of being with so many strong players. There are still some things that we have to work to improve on, but I like the direction that this team is headed."
Goossens advanced to the finals with two wins on Saturday and will face Dimitrije Tasic of Indiana in the No. 1 singles flight. Both of Goossens' wins today were three set victories.
Haley advanced to the finals of the No. 3 flight with a pair of straight set wins today over opponents from Xavier and Butler. He advanced and will face Brandon McDonald of Xavier in the finals of the flight.
"We wanted to come to this event and win some flights," Etzkin said. "And we have the opportunity to do that with both Goose and Haley. They have played outstanding tennis the first two days and I expect that to carry over to tomorrow in the finals."
In addition to his singles success, Goossens has teamed with Chris Klepatz to go 3-1 in the main doubles draw, advancing to the backdraw finals which will be played on Sunday. The duo lost their first doubles contest before fighting back to win three straight.
The Vikings will conclude play at Indiana on Sunday.
