BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened the fall season on Friday at the Indiana Invitational.

"I thought we had a pretty successful first day of competition," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "It was nice to get the team out against competition other than ourselves and see how we stack up against a strong field. We had some great singles play today and are alive in several of the flights."

Junior Yannick Goossens and freshman Matt Kuelker both won their opening round matches in the Flight 1 singles bracket. Kuelker won his contest in straight sets, while Goossens earned a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win.

In addition, senior Rob Fox earned a 6-2, 6-2 win in the Flight 2 singles bracket, while freshman Matt Ford and senior John Haley both picked up straight set singles wins in the third flight.

"Our goal was to come in here and get off to a fast start and hopefully win some flights by the end of the weekend," Etzkin said. "We are off to a good start and have to come back out tomorrow and maintain our focus and intensity."

The Vikings are back in action on Saturday in the second day of the Indiana Invitational.
