CLEVELAND, Ohio- After tying the mark for the best start in the program's history the night before, the Vikings bettered that record with a win over Morgan State (1-8) in straight sets. The Vikings (8-0) have now won their first eight matches of the year and their first two at the CSU Invitational Presented by the Crowne Plaza-Cleveland South.

Match scores were 25-16, 25-11, 25-15.

"We had a little bit of a workout today," Viking head coach Chuck Voss said after the win. "We are not worried about the record, we are just trying to get better everyday."

Freshman Annie Djukic had 34 assists, 5 digs, and 3 kills, senior Amy Benz had 10 kills and a pair of digs and libero Amy Grabiec had 18 digs in the win.

In the first set, the Vikings came out to a roaring start and took a 4-1 lead and did not look back from that point as they twice open a ten-point advantages (18-8, 21-11) and a twelve-point lead (24-12) on their way to the first set win. Freshman Annie Djukic had 14 assists in the first set alone.

Second set was much of the same as the Vikes raced out early to a 15-5 lead and would outscore Morgan State 10-6 to finish off the set.

The last set was the closest as Cleveland State lead 6-3 early. The Bears made it interesting with five straight points to make it 12-10 in favor of the Vikings before Voss called for a timeout. However, the Vikings were just too much as they would go on to the 25-15 set win.

As a total, the Vikings finished hitting .277 with 60 digs, 40 kills, and 39 assists.

Cleveland State will conclude the tournament by hosting Kent State Saturday (Sep 11) 7:00 p.m. at Woodling Gym.
