YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Cleveland State set a school record with four home runs in a 13-3 victory during game one of Tuesday's Horizon League doubleheader at McCune Park.

However, the Vikings could not sustain the momentum as the Penguins snapped CSU's 12 game league winning streak with a 6-3 win in the nightcap.

The split puts CSU at 32-11 this season, including 12-2 in the league, while the Penguins move to 13-26 overall and 6-8 in the Horizon League.

A two-run home run by Kaitlyn Ciminelli in the top of the first gave CSU a quick 2-1 lead as Tess Sito also scored after reaching on an error.

After the Penguins tallied a run in the first, CSU broke the game open with four runs in the second.

Dara Toman started the spurt with a one out solo home run, her 10th of the season. Caila Ferro followed with a single and came around all the way from first base to score on Jessica Burt's double. Burt would advance to third on a wild pitch and after Sito walked, she stole her 34th base of the season to put runners on second and third.

Ciminelli followed with an RBI hit that also moved Sito to third. After a strikeout, Amy Powell and Gabby Gillilan drew back-to-back walks, allowing Sito to score and make it 6-0.

Toman doubled to rightfield to start the third and would come around to score on a wild pitch, making it 7-1.

A six run fourth inning all but iced the game for the Vikings as Megan Bashak, who was pinch hitting for Ferro, delivered the big hit with a grand slam. Two batters later, Sito belted her league-leading and ongoing school record 15th homer of the season to make it 13-1.

YSU scored two runs in the fifth off Gillilan, who relieved starter Amanda Macenko. It was Gillilan's first career appearance on the mound.

Macenko picked up the win to improve to 26-10. She went four innings, allowing three hits with two strikeouts.

Burt went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Sito scored three runs and drove in two. Ciminelli was 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Toman finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI.

CSU struck first in the nightcap with a run in the fourth. After the first two batters were retired, Gabby Gillilan doubled down the leftfield line and came in to score on Amy Powell's single.

However, YSU used a two out rally of its own in the bottom half of the inning as Kim Klonowski recorded a two-out single and scored when Jordan Ingalls delivered a two-run homer to give the Penguins their first lead of the day.

The Vikings came right back with two runs in the fifth to reclaim a 3-2 lead on a Dara Toman triple that scored Lia Gordon and Kaitly Ciminielli. After holding the Penguins scoreless in the fifth, YSU seized control of the game with four runs in the sixth, including a run on a Viking error and an illegal pitch.

YSU starter Cheryl Cale shut the Vikings down in order in the seventh to secure the win and improve to 7-12 this season with a complete game effort. She allowed nine hits and fanned three.

Macenko took the loss, despite throwing her 26th complete game of the season, allowing six hits and striking out eight.

Powell finished 3-for-3 with an RBI, while six other Vikings had one hit apiece.

The two teams will conclude their three-game series with a single game on Wednesday (April 21) at 6:00 p.m.
