MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Cleveland State men's tennis team extended its win streak to seven in a row with a 6-1 victory over Villanova on Saturday afternoon at Marquette.

The Vikings improved to 8-1 with the win.

"We have been playing some good tennis of late and today was no different," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We got the doubles point and that gave us some momentum as we went to singles where we took five of the six matches. The top of our lineup really took over today and carried us with some solid play."

CSU won all three of the doubles matches, including an 8-4 win by the No. 1 squad of Phil Orno and Ryan Hamning.

Rob Fox and John Haley combined for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles, while Yannick Goossens and Chris Klepatz won at No. 3 doubles, 8-7 (4).

"Our doubles play has been pretty consistent so far this season and that is good to see," Etzkin said. "Getting the doubles point could be the difference in some matches down the road so hopefully we can continue to play well in doubles."

The Vikings won the first five spots in singles with Villanova getting its lone point at No. 6 singles.

Ornno won 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, Goossens won at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-1), Hamning won at Np. 3 singles (6-2, 6-4) and Klepatz at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-0).

"I thought those four played really well, not giving up more than four games in any set," Etzkin said.

Fox earned a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.

"Both players were really grinding it out during the first set and Rob really battled hard to get the early lead," Etzkin said.

The Vikings will be back in action on Sunday (Feb. 21) when CSU plays at Marquette at 11:00 a.m. EST.
