Feb. 12, 2010

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Cleveland State men's tennis team extended its win streak to five straight with a 5-2 victory at IPFW on Friday morning in nonconference action.

The win improved the Vikings to 6-1 this season.

"We are starting to get more and more confidence each time we step onto the court and this has been a nice little run that we have put together," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We tried a few different combinations again today and I think that's good for us because it allows some of our guys to get some experience."

CSU started out strong by winning two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles points. Seniors Phil Orno and Ryan Hamning were back at their familiar No. 1 position and earned an 8-4 win, while Rob Fox and John Haley teamed for an 8-2 win at the No. 2 slot.

The Vikings went on to win four of the six singles matches, all in straight sets, to clinch the win.

Orno picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, while Hamning followed suit at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Fox did not lose a game en route to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 3 singles, while Chris Klepatz recorded a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 5 position.

Hamning's win extended his win streak to five straight in singles play, currently the best streak on the squad.

CSU is back in action on Saturday (Feb. 13) when the Vikings play at Dayton. The match is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.
