KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The fall season came to an end for the Cleveland State men's tennis team as the Vikings completed play at the Vredevelt Invitational with the final round of singles play on Sunday morning.
"Overall, I thought we had a pretty good fall and have a better feel for our team," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We didn't win as many matches as we had hoped this fall, but a lot of times it's not about the wins and losses. I think we were able to grow as a team and really see who will fit where in the lineup come this spring."
Junior Yannick Goossens, who won two singles matches yesterday, was the lone Viking to play in a championship contest today, falling to Alexander Palaez of Illinois State, 6-4, 7-5.
"Goose had a great fall despite the result today," Etzkin said. "He is playing at a very high level and I expect that to carry over to the fall when he will stabilize the top of our lineup."
The Vikings will now take a few weeks off before returning to work in preparation of the spring season, which begins with CSU playing at Western Michigan on Jan. 21. The Vikings will also set out to win their fourth straight Horizon League title.
