ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University scored a pair of goals in a five-minute span around halftime as the Bobcats upended Cleveland State, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at the OU Soccer Field.

The loss drops CSU to 1-4 on the season while Ohio wins for the first time in three matches.

"The outcome doesn't indicate the closeness of this match," CSU head coach Derrek Falor said. "The first half was pretty even with the difference being that we just couldn't put the ball in the net. I thought we then dominated play over the final 44 minutes but by them, we had dug ourselves too deep of a hole to get out of."

Ohio opened the scoring in the 23rd minute Sara Seitz fielded a pas from Jackie Hanson and scored from inside the box..

The score would hold until the 40:46 mark Toye Famodu headed home a corner kick from Kelsey Pichel to put the Bobcats ahead, 2-0, at the intermission.

Ohio would strike again just 15 seconds into the second half when Seitz fed a pass ahead to Erin Schwenke, who blasted a shot from the right corner of the box that eluded CSU reserve goalie Shannon Saunders, who had entered the game at half.

CSU picked up its intensity, getting on the scoreboard at the 51:03 mark when Marina Taylor fed a breakaway pass ahead to Jaime Avona, who beat the charging keep low and to the right.

The Vikings were unable to get any closer after that as Ohio played a cautious defense the rest of the half, limiting CSU's advances towards goal.

Ohio had a 24-5 edge in shots, but just seven were on goal.

The Vikings have more than a week off from competition, resuming the schedule with a home game against Niagara on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Krenzler Field.
