CLEVELAND, Ohio - Jordan Goad handed out 40 assists and led Cleveland State to a .430 attack percentage as the Vikings claimed a 3-0 victory over Eastern Michigan in nonconference action on Tuesday night in Woodling Gym.

Match scores were 25-23, 25-12, 25-14.

The win improves CSU to 13-5 overall, while the Eagles fall to 1-16.

"Eastern Michigan is much better than their record indicates," head coach Chuck Voss said. "They are just a young team, but they gave us some fits, especially in the first set.

"Overall, I thought we got stronger and better as the match went on and we did a good job offensively of finding open lanes. We've got a few days to get ready and clean some things up with UIC and Loyola coming to town."

Liz Fazio finished with 14 kills and 12 digs, while Beth Greulich added 11 kills, while hitting .500 (11-1-20).

Kara Koch chipped in eight kills, while Maggie Bonomini tied Fazio for match-high honors with 12 digs.

The first set proved to be the closest as the Eagles rallied toward the end. The Vikings took a 17-11 lead on a Megan Barhorst service ace and still held a six point lead (20-16) following a Fazio kill.

However, the Eagles battled all the way back to tie the set at 23-23, but an EMU attack error and a Koch kill give CSU the set.

CSU took a quick 5-0 lead in the second set, forcing an EMU timeout. The Vikings pushed the lead to 16-8 on a Goad kill as EMU never really threatened.

The third set was much the same with the Vikings jumping out to an 11-3 lead in cruising to the win.

Victoria Randolph led the Eagles with 14 kills, while Rachel Iaquaniello had 10. Ashley Mason dished out 27 assists.

The Vikings committed just seven attack errors in 93 attempts with 43 kills. CSU also had more digs (38-32), assists (45-34), aces (7-1) and blocks (9-4) than the Eagles.

CSU returns to action on Friday (Oct. 2) when the Vikings host UIC at 7:00 p.m.
