It was the best of times; it was the worst of times. Tonight was the worst of times when the Vikings fell to Niagara, 2-0. The loss drops CSU to 1-5 on the season, while Niagara improves to 3-3-1.

"This was a disappointing loss, I thought we created things on offensive but we tried to be too fine and make the perfect play instead of a good play," head coach Derrek Falor said. "We missed out on a number of scoring opportunities because of this."

Niagara struck early in the eighth minute of play when Courtney Davies made a shot from 10 yards out in the middle of the box beating Kelly Zinkiewich in the net. Davies was assisted by Laura Kimoto who found her from a corner kick.

"It comes down to making stupid plays, we let up an easy goal on a corner kick again," Falor said. "The second goal comes when we miss play a free kick and give them an open net opportunity, it's terribly frustrating."

The second goal for the Purple Eagles came late in the second half from Adriana Gallo, who received the ball off a missed play on a free kick by Zinkiewich. Gallo had a wide open shot, beating the junior goalkeeper high and to the right from the top of the box.

"With Marina [Taylor] out I was worried about the defense tonight but they held together pretty well," said Falor. "They really did a nice job except for giving away the clear on the corner kick that set up the first goal. They really didn't make a mistake tonight and held Niagara in check.

The Vikings had the upper hand on shots throughout the entire contest with nine, while Niagara had five. Niagara's only shots on goal were the two that found the net. CSU tallied six shots on goal, led by Natalie Daniels with two. Jaime Avona, Sylvia Olsby, Marley Greiner and Jordan King each added one.

"We need to regroup because in two days we are going to play a Robert Morris team that is very similar to Niagara and we need to be ready," said Falor.

CSU will face Robert Morris this Friday (Sept. 18) at Krenzler Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
